Microsoft jumps over 8% after earnings, Meta drops more than 10% as Nasdaq 100 slips into correction

U.S. stocks reversed sharply late on July 30 after President Donald Trump said the U.S. was ready to respond following Iran’s missile launch at American troops in the Middle East, wiping out earlier gains and pushing the Nasdaq 100 more than 11% below its June high. That move officially put the index in correction territory. Earlier in the session, the Federal Reserve left rates unchanged, but the decision included three dissenting votes in favor of hiking, an unusual split that added to pressure across rates markets. Fed Chair Warsh declined to offer forward guidance on the next meeting, while the 30-year Treasury yield climbed above 5.2%, its highest level since 2007. The day also brought a stark split in Big Tech earnings. Microsoft rose more than 8% in after-hours trading after reporting fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $90.01 billion, up 18% year over year and above the $87.72 billion market expectation, with adjusted EPS of $4.74 and Azure growth at its fastest pace since 2022. Meta fell more than 10% after hours even though second-quarter revenue rose 28% to $60.8 billion, as EPS of $6.18 trailed the prior year’s $7.14 and the midpoint of its third-quarter revenue guidance came in below analyst estimates. Chip stocks stayed under heavy pressure for a fifth straight session, while crypto prices were relatively calm, with Bitcoin opening at $63,853.49 and Ether at $1,919.73.

US SEC Probes Insider Trading Allegations in Futu/Tiger Brokers Crackdown: Susquehanna Claims $100M Options Profit

ChainCatcher reports that US regulators are investigating insider trading allegations brought by Susquehanna International Group, which claims unknown traders made $100 million in options profits before China's regulatory crackdown on cross-border brokerages Futu Securities and Tiger Brokers. Susquehanna, acting as counterparty, lost over $70 million and has obtained a court order to freeze related accounts. The SEC is reviewing the trades described in the lawsuit, which targeted options expiring after the May 22 regulatory announcement that led to Futu being fined 1.85 billion RMB and its founder losing $1.7 billion in a single day.
